    Learning from Nature, Growing in the Community

    The Mesima Reserve is more than just a place to visit: it is a living laboratory, where every season offers new insights and learning opportunities. The internships and work placements allow students and young professionals to work alongside the WWF team, actively participating in conservation, research, and outreach activities.

    Hands-on experience

    Participating in an internship means learning through experience, working directly among dunes, wetlands, and waterways, observing natural balances up close, and contributing to their conservation.

    Every activity becomes an opportunity to grow, learn, and develop skills in the fields of biology, natural sciences, environmental communication, and protected area management.

    Learning in nature means learning to see the world through new eyes.

    What will you do during your internship?

    During the internship, you will have the opportunity to participate in

    • Nature monitoring of flora and fauna.
    • Collection and analysis of environmental data (water, habitats, soil).
    • Field observations to support conservation projects.
    • Environmental education for schools and organized groups.
    • Support for guided tours and outreach activities.
    • Communication and outreach to showcase the Reserve through photos, videos, and informational materials.
    • Administrative activities such as managing calls for tenders, procurement processes, administrative procedures, and MEPA (the Italian Public Administration e-procurement platform) are essential to the daily operations of the Reserve.

    Who will you be working with?

    Interns work closely with the WWF team and the Reserve’s managers, Jasmine De Marco and Guglielmo Galasso. The program offers the opportunity to interact with biologists, environmental experts, professional guides, and volunteers who contribute daily to the protection of Mesima.

    How to Participate

    To apply for the internship or work placement

    • Preference will be given to college students or recent graduates in the natural sciences, biology, geology, environmental studies, communication, or related fields.
    • Strong motivation and a keen interest in environmental education, nature conservation, and the management of the Reserve’s activities are required.
    • No advanced technical skills are required; many tasks can be learned on the job.
    • The duration and timing of the internship can be arranged based on the university calendar and the Reserve’s needs.

    A journey that leaves a lasting impression

    Those who participate in an internship at Mesima not only acquire technical skills, but also develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between humans and nature. The experience teaches participants to observe carefully, respect the rhythms of the earth, and contribute to the growth of a region that is rediscovering its voice, while also learning about and managing the administrative aspects necessary for the conservation of the Reserve.
